Song Of Horror: Prelude & Episode 1 Walkthrough

The first hours of Song of Horror can leave even the most seasoned horror veteran a little lost. Follow this guide to navigate Husher Mansion.

Song of Horror, released May 27, 2021, is a survivor horror game. It follows the story of a melody, played from a mysterious music box, that curses anyone who listens to it.

The game starts with information of a missing writer, Sebastian P. Husher, and his family.

His editor, Etienne Bertrand, sends in an assistant, Daniel Noyer, to look for him at Husher's family mansion. Daniel soon goes missing, as well. In Episode 1, other characters end up at the Husher mansion to find him.

The story starts in Daniel's apartment. The player can interact and look at different things while walking around and getting used to the controls. White dots indicate observations from the character or items to be picked up and used. Make your way into Daniel's office, and the phone will ring, beginning a cutscene. We learn that Daniel's boss, Etienne, is worried about the disappearance of Husher, and Daniel makes his way to Husher's mansion to see what's going on.

After Daniel arrives at and enters the mansion, you'll see two doors to your left. The first door is the bathroom, but nothing interesting is in there. The second door is locked for now. Head to the right door at the end of the hallway in front of you. Walk into the dining room, and you'll find documents and the backstory to the music box. While in the dining room, a mysterious wooden door appears. A cutscene shows Daniel getting sucked into the room by the Presence. Daniel then slowly goes crazy in an Edgar Allan Poe kind of way.

The ghoulish creatures that haunt the mansion are called the Presence, which are a programmed A.I. that creates a unique gameplay experience. Each player and even character will have different things happen, meaning almost everyone will have slightly different experiences. But, no matter the character, don't make hasty decisions -- it could cost the character their life.

We see Daniel's boss again who is now talking with Daniel's ex-wife, Sophie Van Denend, about Daniel's disappearance. Both agree to visit the Husher mansion respectively to investigate Daniel's whereabouts.

We now see a character menu pop up to choose between playable characters:

Sophie Van Denend, Daniel's ex-wife. Etienne Bertrand, Daniel's boss. Alexander Laskin, housekeeper at Husher mansion. Alina Ramos, technician for home security.

Whichever character you decide to play with will have different experiences and observations. The game also utilizes permadeath, so if your character dies, you'll be brought back to the menu to choose a different character. If all four characters die, you'll have to start at the beginning of the chapter.

Like in the Prelude, you'll enter the mansion from the front yard, and the character starts in the main entrance of the house. The second door that was locked for Daniel is now unlocked and leads to a small room with 3 other doors. The two doors on the right are both locked. Enter the room directly ahead of you to the garage.

Inside the garage and on the work table to the right is a metal box with FUSES written on the side that you can grab. You'll need to find a screwdriver to open the box.

You can now leave and make your way back to the main entrance in search of a screwdriver.

Pick up the note in the hallway which explains a key in the library desk. The library is through the living room and on the left, but you'll need some sort of lubrication to open the desk drawer.

Step into the small hallway that's in front of the stairs.

Grab the box of matches on your left. You'll need these, and two other items, to light the fireplace later in the episode. Step through the door to your left and into the kitchen.

In the kitchen, grab the ring on the counter. Check the exposed wire and puddle of water in front of the sink. You'll have to find something to clean that up. Go to the opposite end of the kitchen and through the door on the left and into the pantry and grab the oil can you'll need for the desk drawer.

When you leave the room, there will be a cutscene. The Presence will appear, trying to push open the door. The game will give the player instructions on how to keep out the spirits, and once you slam the door closed, an ear icon will now appear in front of most doors, which allows you to listen into the next room.

Listen before walking into a room: If you hear whispering, do not enter the room, or your character will die. If you hear nothing, it is safe to continue.

Return to the Library. You can now get the key out of the desk drawer by using the oil can. Grab the red haiku folder inside the drawer, too.

Go back to the dining room, and you can now unlock the double doors that led Daniel to the mysterious door in the Prelude. On the table in the middle of the room, you'll find the screwdriver needed to open the metal box. Inside the metal box are fuses you'll need for a future puzzle. Solving this puzzle will help turn on the electricity to the mansion.

You are now able to venture up to the second floor.

Head down the hallway and observe the photo on the chair. The photo shows Husher's wife and children. On the back of the photo reads "Do not look at this photo." Too late. Flip the photo over to reveal a creepy face. Tuck that back in your pocket and continue down the hallway. Open the second door to the bathroom.

Grab the dirty towel from the sink. You'll use this to clean up the puddle in the kitchen. Go back out into the hallway.

Go outside onto the balcony and grab the tongs found near the grill. Go down further and check the floodlight and battery on the character's left. You'll need something to jumpstart the floodlight, which will be used to open the door with the strange black goo.

After you come back inside from the balcony, make your way down the hallway to your right. You'll round the corner to the study. On the table in front of you, grab the remote control for the garage. There's a door behind the desk, but a broken key is stuck inside the lock, so you can't get through just yet. Go back down the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen.

Use the dirty cloth to clean up the puddle of water in front of the sink. You can now go into the basement.

Unlock the door and make your way down the stairs. You'll find a safe with a note next to it. The note gives clues on how to open the safe with a code. You're not supposed to know the answer yet, but if you want to open the safe now, the code is 4798.

After you unlock the safe, you'll find the Green Doll.

Moving to the far wall of the basement is a fuse puzzle. The fuses are numbered differently and need to correspond with the wires from the box next to it.

Fuse Puzzle Solution:

Left top: 25

Right top: 15

Left bottom: 20

Right bottom: 10

Turn on the electricity and head back into the garage.

You can now use the remote to open the garage door, but you need to shut off the water first. Read the boiler instructions on the wall. On the box, hold down the last (blue) button as per instructions. The water will now be shut off, and you can open the garage door.

Head outside to the car in front of you and grab the battery cables. You'll use these to turn on the floodlight upstairs. Take the blue haiku folder in the backseat.

Walk around the side of the mansion, and you'll see a side door, which leads to the servants' quarters. The door is locked for now. Go back inside through the garage and back upstairs.

Before going to the balcony, you can now go into the first room by the stairs. Turn on the light on the wall to chase the Presence away. Go inside and take the Red Doll from the bed. Step out back into the hallway to reach the balcony again. There will then be a cutscene during which you hide from the Presence.

Whenever the walls begin to turn black, you'll need to hide from the Presence. On your map, hiding places are marked as an oval with a slash through it. Hiding places are tables or wardrobes. The screen will then indicate the character's heartbeat. Keep in rhythm with the heartbeat by pressing L2 and R2 only after you hear the heartbeat. If you succeed, the screen will go back to normal, and the Presence will disappear.

You can now make your way back to the balcony.

By now, the door on the left is completely covered in black slime. What you'll need to do is turn on the floodlight by using the cables from the car on the battery. Aim the floodlights at the slime-covered door and zoom in. When the light flickers, let go of X and push it again until all the black slime is gone. Now, you can do into that room.

Grab the Gold Key off the table and straight down the hall into Julia's room. You'll find superglue on the table across the room. You can now combine the superglue and ring to use to open the door with the key stuck in the lock in the second floor study.

Go back out into the hallway, and the door on your left is the bathroom. Use the tongs to grab the Black Doll from the toilet. Going back out into the hallway, across the hall is Saul's room. If you use the ear icon and listen, you'll hear voices and sounds. If you go inside, your character will die, but if you ignore it, you can continue on.

If one character dies, the next character can pick up where the last left off and pick up the inventory items dropped.

Go back to the study down the hall where the door with the stuck key is. Use the ring combined with glue to open the door. Inside the room, you'll find a metal hook you can use to open the attic. Enter the paint storage room down the hall and open the attic door with the metal hook.

Once you're in the attic, inspect the painting nearest to you. The year described on the painting will be 1798, the year needed to complete the safe puzzle in the basement -- if you haven't already done so.

Do not go out the windows in front of you. Instead, you'll hear crying and need to make your way to your right. There, you'll see Julia. She'll hand the character another haiku folder and then disappear. After Julia is gone, you can leave through the window behind her and out onto the scaffolding. From there, make your way down and into the master bedroom.

Inside the Master Bedroom, you'll find the Blue Doll on the vanity. After that, unlock the door on the right in the Master Bedroom. This will lead back out into the second floor hallway.

Go back downstairs and through the garage to go outside. Head around the side, and you can now open the Servent's Quarters using the Gold Key you found outside Julia's room earlier. You'll end up in Masha's room. Once inside, take the Orange Doll from the ironing board.

Go back out into the hallway and into the wash room at the far end of the hall.

Inside the washroom, grab the Solvent. This will be used to light the fireplace. DO NOT examine the bathtub at the end of the room or your character will die.

Go out into the hallway again and open the last door. It's now unlocked and will open to the room next to the garage and basement, creating a shortcut now. Head back upstairs to the play room.

You should have all 5 dolls now. Each one needs to be in a room inside the dollhouse.

Dollhouse Puzzle Solution:

Once solved, an Old Key will pop out next to the Dirty Doll. Go back downstairs and into the living room. You can now light the fireplace.

First, place the wood into the fireplace. Next, use the Solvent. Lastly, use the Matchbox on the firewood to start the fire. Go left of the living room and re-enter the dining room.

This last line is instructions for placing the Dirty Doll in the fireplace.

Go back down the hall to the playroom and grab the Dirty Doll from the dollhouse. With the Dirty Doll in hand, head back down to the living room and toss the Dirty Doll into the fireplace.

Head back through the kitchen and to the library where Daniel first disappeared. You can now go back through the double doors, and the mysterious door has appeared again. Use the Old Key to finally unlock the mysterious wooden door. Once inside, you'll go through another door and find yourself in a long corridor. Walk down the hall until you see the third door. There will be an indicator to press X to open the door. This is where Daniel has been.

After finally rescuing Daniel, a cutscene appears. Daniel is now in the hospital, waking up from what seemed like a terrible nightmare. But things aren't over just yet.
