Woman Charged In Shooting On Central Avenue: Sarasota Police
SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota woman faces charges related to a shooting early Saturday morning in the 700 block of Central Avenue, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release. The shooting took place just after 2:30 a.m.
Carrie Ecklund, 48, was arrested Monday just after 7 p.m. She faces charges of criminal mischief for damage greater than $1,000 and possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony, police said.
One victim was grazed in the arm by a bullet during the shooting and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The victim didn't initially cooperate with investigators.
Surveillance video footage from several cameras on the property showed Ecklund holding the gun during the incident. One camera clearly shows her loading the firearm and then walking toward the area where the shooting happened, police said. Detectives also found a bullet fragment inside the building.
A hurricane-proof window worth $3,240 was found shattered at the scene. There was one bullet hole in the window.
Detectives don't believe there were other victims or suspects associated with the shooting.Ecklund remains behind bars at Sarasota County Jail.
